WELCOME TO THE OFFICIAL SITE OF BERT BERNS
Sloopy II Music & Bert Russell Music

"He is responsible for some of the most enduring classics of sixties pop and soul: "Twist and Shout", "Under The Boardwalk", "Brown Eyed Girl","Piece Of My Heart", "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love." Bert Russell BernsThe artists he fostered cast major shadows across the music world: Van Morrison, Neil Diamond, Solomon Burke, Ben E. King, The Drifters, The Isley Brothers, The McCoys.

On a breakneck, seven-year run beginning in 1960, he created some of the most soulful and honest music of his generation - songs that made you shiver the first time you heard them, songs that are just as fresh and moving today. He is truly the lost titan of the American music business, an important figure the world knows little about. It's long past time his brilliance was recognized."

- Doug Morris, from the liner notes to The Heart And Soul Of Bert Berns

NEWS:

Ace Records in the United Kingdom has released the first of a two-volume compilation, THE BERT BERNS STORY * TWIST AND SHOUT * VOLUME 1 * 1960-1964.  This landmark collection of twenty-six tracks written and produced by Bert Berns chronicles and salutes the first half of Berns' short but brilliant career.  Compiled by Rob Hughes, Mick Patrick and Tony Rounce, THE BERT BERNS STORY is a major milestone in the path to recognition of Bert Berns' musical legacy.

We mourn the passing of legendary soul singer Freddie Scott (April 24, 1933 - June 4, 2007), who was responsible for such classics as "Hey Girl," "Are You Lonely For Me Baby," "Cry To Me" and "Am I Grooving You." Freddie Scott signed with Bert Berns' Shout label in 1966, where the two men created what was to become the only LP ever released on Shout, "Are You Lonely For Me." The album is widely considered one of the greatest soul collections of the era, with the title track topping the R&B charts for four weeks in early 1967. Like Berns, Freddie Scott never truly received the recognition that he deserved. But to anyone familiar with his work, Freddie's place in the pantheon of soul performers endures forever.

In tribute to Bert Berns, Universal Records has released the CD The Heart & Soul of Bert Berns, featuring a selection of his soul classics performed by such artists as Freddie Scott, Solomon Burke, The Isley Brothers, Garnet Mimms, The Drifters, Hoagy Lands, and Erma Franklin.

A feature-length documentary film and Broadway musical about the life and music of Bert Berns are currently in development in New York City.
